Creating a Dahlia Crown
Having never created a flower crown before, I decided to try my hand at it with the abundance of dahlias, roses and sweet peas growing in my late summer garden. Though it wasn’t as difficult as I imagined, it took some time and consideration when planning the design.
After watching several online tutorials, I felt confident I could create my own floral crown. I found floral wire wasn’t sturdy enough to hold the weight of the dahlias, therefore, I used a wire hanger instead. After creating a shape to match my daughter’s head, I used the floral wire and tape to fasten the flowers to the wire hanger. First adding the larger flowers and then going around and adding smaller filler flowers. I was happy with the end result though it felt very delicate.. much like a sand mandala. You spend this time creating it only to have it undone soon after.
